The Ins and Outs of an Aquarium Overflow Box

Resolved Question: do goldfish mind dripping water?

I just bought a few goldfish at the pet store and put them in a tub outside with aquarium stones, a water lily that has been living outside for a few weeks (lots of bio stuff in the water that the fish seem to be eating), and some green oxygen weed from the same pet store. The tub is sitting under a dripping tap right now. The tub fills up and overflows down into a gap in the concrete where some salamanders live (my cat sits staring at that spot all the time and occasionally brings a salamander home, so I assume they live there). I piled up the weed under the tap so that the dripping noise isn't as conspicuous, but I'm wondering if it'll irritate the goldfish. I know tap water is chlorinated, but it's dripping slowly enough that I don't think it'll affect the water in the tub too much. But I don't want to drive the fish crazy with constant dripping. They seem to swim up to check it out every now and then, but I'm not sure if they like it or are annoyed by it. Anyone know?

Resolved Question: purchasing an aquarium for piranha?

I have a 45 gallon corner tank for my 2 piranhas (a little over 1 year old), and just started looking at one day getting a much bigger tank. The tank I have now was given to me. I want to put the piranhas in a 150 gallon tank one day, and was just wondering what the difference is between acrylic tanks and glass ones? Also does anyone know if you can stick a tank that big anywhere, b/c 150 gallons weighs a lot. Also while i was checking out tanks online, I see stuff about "overflow" and sump tanks...anyone know what that is and if you really need that?

Resolved Question: Need help setting up an Aquarium Trickle Filter?

I was just wondering if the overflow into the sump and the pump back into the aquarium would pass water at equal rates, due to some law of physics or if I need to adjust the pump to flow to a specific rate. I'm worried that if the overflow dosen't take enough water out of the tank the pump will fill the aquarium or, visa versa with the sump overflowing.

Resolved Question: Ceramic balls for aquarium ...?

I have a small fish tank and is using a hang filter. It comes with a catridge which contains carbon inside. I am now considering adding ceramic balls into my filer so bacteria can cultivate. However, whenever i add the ceramic balls into the my filter, water seems to overflow. Can I just leave the ceramic balls in the fish tank instead of in the filter. Will the bacteria be able to cultivate there ? I have current stack those ceramic balls on my sand inside my fish tank. Need advice .. Thanks !!

Resolved Question: What does it mean to dream of fish and fish biting your fingers?

I had a dream that I was given a store that sold fish for aquariums. When I went to start working the store was a mess. Staff was not organized, fish were breeding faster than I could get tanks set up to care for them. The fish were so hungry that they were eating each other and I when I went to feed them they would jump out of the water to bite my fingers. I was feeling frustrated that I couldn't clean all the tanks fast enough and that cross breeding had started that overflowed my tanks with highly unusual and aggressive fish. In the end all I wanted to do was leave and become a journalist who wrote a book. I wound up walking home in a thunderstorm.

Resolved Question: Which size tank should I get intended for SW?

I am looking for a new aquarium 55, or 75? Is there a lot more options to a 75 thus a 55 (fish wise)? Is the extra 20 gallons worth it or just a lot more work? I want to know which filtration would be best, I am thinking wet/dry sump w/ overflows. Any recomendations on protein skimmers? Also the aquarium will be taken down in 4 years (college). Will be here for the the next hour so I can nswer any questions in your answers quickly so check back, I have a 20 gallon! It is for salt, as you can read in the question itself. When I mean take it down I mean take it doen for good, untill I set up a new one after college.
